This article is for: SideDrawer Console users
The Unstructured SideDrawer gives you and your clients an experience that's similar to traditional folder organization, as opposed to SideDrawer's primary Tile/Record/File structure
In the Unstructured SideDrawer, the default is a single Tile, called "Main," which you and your clients can organize into folders and sub-folders.
Creating an Unstructured SideDrawer
Creating an Unstructured SideDrawer
In Console, when creating a new SideDrawer, select Unstructured as the SideDrawer Type
In your UX Settings (Settings > Affiliates > Manage Client UX), under Tiles, Files & Record Management, make sure that Allow the creation of Sub-Records is turned on
This will enable you and your client to create Folders within Records in the new SideDrawer, to fully take advantage of the Unstructured capability
Add the client as a Collaborator - we recommend giving them Contributor or Editor access
You can still deliver Info Requests and Content Packages to an Unstructured SideDrawer
Content Packages will deliver files and folders to the top layer of the SideDrawer, creating Records in the Main Tile
Info Requests with document uploads will create Records at the top layer, in the Main Tile
Creating Sub-Folders
Creating Sub-Folders
From the Main Tile, you can use the Create a Record function to create Records as you normally would in SideDrawer.
Within these Records, you can upload files, or create a Folder, or both
Use the Create New Folder button to make folders within the Record
In this example, Record 1 contains 3 Folders and 5 Files
These are just at the top layer of this Record - folders and files contained within the sub-folders will not appear in this count
Use the Create New Folder within a folder to add further sub-folders
Managing Collaborators
Managing Collaborators
As in other SideDrawers, Collaborators can be added at the SideDrawer level, or to individual Records or Folders.
Note that permissions for Records/Folders are managed one by one: adding a Collaborator to a Folder does not automatically give them access to its Sub-Folders
In this example, the Collaborator will have Contributor access to Record 1, Editor access to the Insurance Folder, and Viewer access to Life Insurance, Car Insurance, and Home Insurance
What is the Unstructured SideDrawer for?
What is the Unstructured SideDrawer for?
The aim of the Unstructured SideDrawer is to give your clients an experience that's more familiar, closer to the file-and-folder format that they're used to.
The Unstructured SideDrawer also lets each client fully customize their folders - they decide on Record and folder names, and on sub-folders.
Should I use Structured or Unstructured SideDrawers?
Should I use Structured or Unstructured SideDrawers?
Our Structured SideDrawer format, with the predetermined Tile set, is ideal for creating clarity and consistency across multiple clients.
You always know, for example, that your clients will put their tax documents in the Taxes Tile, and Content Packages and Info Requests let you further determine where files will be stored, across your entire client base.
The Unstructured SideDrawer trades some of that consistency for increased flexibility, giving the client more control to customize their own experience.
In either case, you and your client get the full benefit of SideDrawer's security and collaboration features!
