Custom SideDrawer Types are only available with a Business Subscription

When creating a new SideDrawer for your clients, your built-in options are Business, Individual or Unstructured, and each of these Types comes with its standard Tile set

If your business needs a different Tile to be added to that standard set, you can use the Customization tools to create it and add it!
If you need higher-level customization, you can build an entirely new SideDrawer Type, and populate it with your own Tile set!
Note that customization is only supported for Premium and Business subscriptions.

Whether you're creating a custom Tile or an entire custom SideDrawer Type, you'll be working from the SideDrawer Types & Tiles menu in your Console

In the Console, go to Settings > SideDrawer Types & Tiles:

Why can't I delete?

From the SideDrawer Types & Tiles menu, you can add Tiles and SideDrawer Types, and you can edit what you've created, but there is no option to delete
This is a security precaution, because deleting a Tile from this menu would remove it from all clients' accounts, along with all Records and Files

Custom Tiles

Whether you're adding a new Tile to an existing SideDrawer Type, or creating an entirely new SideDrawer Type, you'll use the Custom Tile menu to add and manage your Tiles

Can I remove or edit Tiles in Individual & Business SideDrawers?
You can't - while you can add Custom Tiles to these default SideDrawer Types, their core Tiles are set at the system level.
You're not able to remove Tiles from the default sets, and you can't change their names or icons

Workarounds: Simplify or customize!
The Hide Empty Tiles feature lets you streamline your clients' view by hiding any Tiles that don't have Records in them.
These Tiles are still there, and you or your client can upload files to them, but they'll stay hidden from view until then.

Alternatively, you can create your own Custom SideDrawer Type, and include some Tiles from the default SideDrawer Types, while removing others

Creating a Custom Tile

This flow will let you add a new Tile to an existing SideDrawer Type, whether it's our defaults (Business, Individual, Unstructured) or one that you create

When you create a Tile, it will be added to all existing SideDrawers of that Type - for example, if you add a Tile called "Communications" to the Individual SideDrawer, all current clients with an Individual SideDrawer will now see a Communications Tile on their account

  1. Choose the SideDrawer Type that you want to add the custom Tile to, click on the 3 dots icon on the right, and select Manage Tiles:

  2. This step will look slightly different if this is your first custom Tile:

    1. If this is your first custom Tile for that SideDrawer Type, click the button to continue:

    2. If you already have some custom Tiles for this SideDrawer Type, select Create New Tile:

  3. To create your new Tile, you will need:

    1. An Affiliate (the brand or sub-brand that this Tile belongs to)

    2. An icon (the image that appears in the Tile)

    3. A name (the text that appears in the Tile)

      1. Choose your Affiliate from the drop-down (in most cases, there will only be one option)

      2. Click on the top button on the right to open the Icon Gallery

      3. In the Gallery, enter a description in the search line, choose an icon that you like from the results (if you don't see something you like, or if you get no results, try a different search term), then click Confirm

      4. Optional: Instead of searching the Gallery, you can use the Drag & Drop button to upload your own image files

Optional: You can also use the lower icon on the right to upload an image from your Asset Library (useful if you want to use your company brand or logo as Tile icons)

      5. Enter the name of your Tile in the name bar
(try to keep the name brief so it doesn't overwhelm the Tile display)

      6. Now that you have all 3 elements (Affiliate, Icon, Name), click Confirm to finalize
(Remember that you can change the name or icon later on if you want)

  4. Optional: If you want to customize the Tile name in different languages, select Proceed to add translations, and set out the name in any applicable languages.
Just click on the language and enter your desired translation, then click Submit

  5. The newly-created Tile now appears in all client's SideDrawers of that SideDrawer Type:

And in the Custom Tile menu for that SideDrawer Type:

Managing Custom Tiles

Once you create Custom Tiles, you can come back to the Custom Tiles menu to modify the Tiles, or to switch their position in the SideDrawer layout

To access this menu, from the Settings > SideDrawer Types and Tiles menu, select your SideDrawer Type, click on the 3 dots, and select Manage Tiles

From this menu, you can:

  • Re-arrange the order of your Tiles

  • Change the icon for a Tile

  • Change the name of a Tile

  • Create custom Record Types for a Tile

Re-arranging Tiles

The order of the Tiles in the menu corresponds to their order in a client's SideDrawer.
The top Tile in the menu will appear at the top left of the client's SideDrawer display, with the next Tiles appearing to the right, and then in lower rows

To move a Tile in the sequence, left-click on the 3 lines to the left of the Tile icon, and drag it up or down on the screen, then drop it in the new spot

Once you have placed your Tiles, exit to the main menu, or refresh your browser, to finalize the change

If you're adding Custom Tiles to a default SideDrawer Type (Business, Individual, Unstructured), you will only be able to re-arrange the added Custom Tiles

Change the Icon for a Tile

You can change the icon on a Tile at any point, to replace the image that appears in that Tile

  1. In the SideDrawer Type menu, click on the 3 dots to the right of the Tile name, and select Edit Tile

  2. This will open the Manage Tile page, where you have 3 options for how to select a new icon:

    1. If you have a saved or downloaded image file that you want to use, click on the central icon to open your files and choose your saved image

    2. If you have an image that's already loaded in your Asset Library in Console, click on the picture icon at the lower right to open the Asset Library and choose the image

    3. To choose a new icon from the Gallery, click on the gallery icon at the middle right to open the Gallery
In the Gallery, use the search bar to enter a description, then select your new icon from the search results

    4. Once you've chosen your new icon, click Confirm to finalize it
The new icon will now appear in all client SideDrawers that have this Tile

Change the Name of a Tile

  1. In the SideDrawer Type menu, click on the 3 dots to the right of the Tile name, and select Rename Tile

  2. In the next screen, enter the new Tile name, then click Submit

    1. Optional: to customize translations, click on each language option, and add your preferred translation for the Tile name

Create Custom Record Types

Record Types are additional labels on a Record, indicating what kind of files are stored there
For example, you can have a Record called "Health Card," with the Record Type "Personal ID"

This tool lets you set out Record Types that are relevant to this Tile, and will appear as suggestions to your users, letting them choose from the list that you prepare
Clients are not limited to this list, as they can also create their own labels

  1. In the SideDrawer Type menu, click on the 3 dots to the right of the Tile name, and select Manage Record Types

  2. In the Record Types menu for the Tile, select Add New Record Type

  3. Enter the Record Type, then click Confirm

  4. Optional: Add translations to customize the Record Type in other available languages, or click Close to skip translations and continue

  5. Once you create Record Types, you can change their names by clicking the 3 dots and selecting Rename Record Type

You can also select the 3 lines at the left to move a Record Type up or down, putting it higher or lower in the list

Custom SideDrawer Types

Note that this feature is only supported for Business Subscriptions

Rather than customize the default SideDrawer Types, you can create a new SideDrawer Type from scratch.
This is a useful option if you have very specific use cases - for example, if you are primarily using SideDrawer for statement delivery, you might create a Custom SideDrawer Type with Tiles for Quarterly Statements and for Tax Slips

Most of the process of creating a Custom SideDrawer Type is making the individual Tiles, which are created using the steps for Creating a Custom Tile, above

To set up a Custom SideDrawer Type:

  1. In the Settings > SideDrawer Types & Tiles menu, select Add new SideDrawer Type, at the upper right

  2. Enter a name for your SideDrawer Type, then click Save & proceed to create a Tile

  3. As in the Create a Custom Tile flow above, create your first Tile by choosing the Affiliate, selecting an Icon, and entering a Name for your Tile, then click Confirm

  4. Click Close to complete and exit, or Proceed to add translations if you want to customize the translations for your Tile

  5. Your new SideDrawer Type has now been created, with its first Tile
Click the 3 dots at the right and select Manage Tiles to add more Tiles, or edit existing Tiles
